Top Vitamin Choices to Moderate Cholesterol

Fats can either be saturated and unsaturated. It is better to consume food that is rich in polyunsaturated fat as they are healthier and can be easily emulsified and excreted. One type of polyunsaturated fat is the Omega 3 fatty acid. It is commonly found in seafood like fish and shellfish. The herring, salmon and mackerel are known to contain Omega 3 fatty acids in the highest concentration.

There is actually only little evidence that Omega 3 can reduce LDL levels. However, fish is still a good dietary choice because it is low in saturated fats, which are certainly not wanted in the body. The use of Omega 3 fatty acid supplement is also not recommended as a treatment for high cholesterol because its long-term effects have not been documented.

In addition to Omega 3, recent studies have shown that soyfoods have positive effects in people who wish to control their cholesterol levels. This, and the added benefit of heightened mental function. Carey Gleason, Ph. D., a senior scientist from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health said that studies have shown increased mental functioning for people who consume soyfood. Furthermore, East Asian countries, where soyfood is a staple, have documented significantly lower number of dementia cases.

This study can actually benefit people who wish to control their cholesterol levels and prevent the incidence of heart diseases and stroke. Further studies have shown that in addition to losing weight and complimentary low fat diet, soyfood consumption can help in eliminating the bad Low Density Lipoprotein. This is so because soyfood can increase HDL, which will in turn decrease LDL. Increased HDL can cause better vessel elasticity and lower triglycerides.

The United States Food and Drug Administration have already stated minimal amount of soy protein, about 25 grams in addition to low saturated fat and cholesterol diet can actually reduce the risk of heart disease. One serving of soyfood can carry up to 6.25 grams. This simply means a daily consumption of 4 servings should do the trick.

Another substance that may deem effective in controlling cholesterol levels is the vitamin B, Niacin. Though it is not food that is readily ingested, it can be found in various sources. They also serve several functions.

One function is that it breaks down complex carbohydrates to simple sugars. Another is that it keeps the nervous system healthy as they provide the necessary protection and sheath (myelin). Next, is that it supports the digestive system through the intrinsic factor that also helps in preventing anemia. Finally, niacin keeps the skin, hair and eyes healthy.

Niacin has been shown to increase HDL by about 15-35%. Furthermore, an added benefit of reducing LDL and triglyceride levels is documented. Though Niacin is very important, it is to be remembered that therapy will require high dosage. The long-term effects are unknown, so an appointment with a physician prior to commencing therapy is highly recommended.

Keeping the weight in check is of course a must when trying to lower the levels of cholesterol. In addition to some exercise, a low fat diet and the help of an appetite suppressing product is a must.

Are You Emotionally Hungry?

October 25th, 2009

comfort eating

More and more people are noticing that they are prone to eating more when feeling down and depressed. Emotional eating, the often-unconscious practice of consuming more food when under the onslaught of certain emotions, is turning out to be a problem to obesity, cited as one of the reasons obese individuals don’t thin down despite their best intentions and also of once-thin individuals gaining weight abruptly.

To the surprise of some health-conscious individuals, even they are not exempt to the habit. This is usually because the individual was not prepared to deal with the connection between his/her emotions and the cravings he/she feels. Fortunately, there are ways on how to know if you are an emotional eater. Check out the following cases and see if any of them matches your eating habits.

More often than not, emotional eaters consume food without even realizing their actions. The mind can at times put all its focus on a single point that, unknowingly, the one slice of cake had become three. In this case, usually the individual is focusing on analyzing the emotion or finding a mental distraction powerful enough to block out the emotion. The eater continues to consume food in unmeasured numbers, with his/her mind on other matters, until food ultimately runs out or the person gets pulled back into the present reality either by external forces or by willpower.

Ironically, some emotional eaters are just the opposite. Some would rather concentrate on the food before them rather than on their thoughts and emotions, which is why they eat until they are able to forget what started the eating binge in the first place. Yet these tendencies to indulge yourself are not the only signs on how to know if you are an emotional eater.

Another tell-tale sign of emotional eating is the feeling of guilt or shame that suddenly wells up during and after food intake. Especially for both the extremely health-conscious and the obese, knowledge of having done the forbidden usually crops up after the eating binge. This could further worsen the emotional pressure experienced by the individual, and can cause desperate crash dieting when done in increasing frequency. Feelings of despair after eating could be one indicator that helps how to know you are an emotional eater.

Emotional eaters also can be seen eating alone at unusual, sparsely populated areas. Majority of the emotional eaters questioned about such behavior admit that they do not want interference from well-meaning people, preferring to sort out their feelings alone. Often, they walk out of an argument and find someplace solitary where they can find comfort in food and the distractions it offers them.

Basically, though, the test on how to know if you are an emotional eater or not is to recall the last time you craved for food at an unusual time. What transpired before that? Was eating the first reasonable solution that came to mind after the event? How did you feel after the eating binge? Did eating have the desired effect on your emotions? If you felt stressed, anxious, depressed, lonely, or angry before the craving struck, chances are you are an emotional eater.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler Beats Eating Disorder

June 7th, 2009

jamie lynn sigler eating disorder

Actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who plays Tony Sopranos daughter in the famous TV series, recently published a book called Wise Girl,  where she writes about her rise to fame. She also writes about something a lot more serious: anorexia nervosa.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler says: “I had an eating disorder, I hated the way I looked when I saw myself in the mirror, but I just couldn’t stop what I was doing.”

As we all probably are aware of, anorexia is characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss, leading to a potentially deadly contition for many. The illness is more common than you could imagine, not only celebrities fall victim to this thing. National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) claims that no less than  5-10 million girls and women, and a million boys and men struggle with eating disorders such as this.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler managed to learn how to cope with her anorexia. “There was a lot coming at me at the same time,” she laughs, “but I’ve learned different ways to deal with these things. I do not have to be as skinny as someone’s former girlfriend — if they were that great, they’d still be a couple.” Today she is back at her old weight, and she feels GREAT.

Our society is obsessed with avoiding fat and of getting rid of those extra pounds. But it is VERY important not to let things go out of hand. Use your judgement and make your weight loss strategy long term. Excercise right, eat right and use a good fat binder product to suceed. Do not have unrealistic expectations, let things happen over time instead.

Fat Binder Tablets or Pills? Fat Binding Capsules?

February 4th, 2009

question-fat-binder-tabletsYes, you´ve noticed it too: there seems to me a lot of confusion over what to call these things. Some websites name them fat binders, some fat binding capsules and some others call them fat binder pills. That´s all fine. But, then some other sites gets it all totally wrong – they think fat binders and fat burners are the same thing!

Guess what? They are not! In fact, the two products work in two very different ways, and both are effective (if a good proven and classed by the FDA tablet brand is used). Here´s the difference:

  • Fat Binder Tablets work in a very clever way. They have ingredients that binds the fat in the food you are eating. You can eat the same food that you´ve always eaten, but your body will not be able to absorb all the fat it usually does – because it is already bound by the fat binder! Nice! To get lasting results, fat binder tablets should be combined with a bit of exercise and better food habits like more vegetables and so on. A working, safe and modern solution.
  • Fat Burning Tablets works like this: they turn your own body´s thermostat UP – thereby making it burn fat at a higher rate than it would normally. It is like exercising infront of the TV set, if you like. We think the fat bunrer tablets should be combined with exercise and healthy food to give you a lasting effect.

Both fat binder tablets and fat burner tablets work fine, but in different ways. We recommend a god fat binder tablet like Proactol as your number one choice. If you like the idea of a fat burning tablet better, we would like to advice you to go for the award winning Extreme Diet Burn tablets.

New Consumer Site Stresses the Importance of 100%Pure Hoodia

January 8th, 2009

If you are looking for pure and safe Hoodia Gordonii, you probably would like to take a look at new consumer information site Health Consumer. Health Consumer writes about the risks and benefits of Hoodia, and discusses the famous plant and its ingredients. They time and again stress the importance of choosing a risk free brand, with 100% pure hoodia:

“Because it can cost a lot to obtain Hoodia, manufacturers tend to cut down costs by mixing this plant’s extracts with other known ingredients of diet supplements to create what they market as ‘pure’ hoodia weight loss products. According to surveys, 80% of the so-called Hoodia-based supplements in the market these days are either just diet supplements injected with a small portion of the extract or blatant fakes.”

True words. Finding a safe and tested Hoodia brand is a question of knowledge. Do not make decisions based on price – you might end up with an unsafe and fake product in the end!

Check Out These Celebrity Diet Secrets

December 22nd, 2008

When you think of celebrities, you almost always picture skinny men and women who have the perfect bodies. Slim waists, long, muscled legs, great hairstyles… they look like gods. While it may seem like they roll out of bed looking amazing, they really don’t. While there are a few people who seem naturally beautiful, most have to work at it. They all have their secret diets and exercise routines that keep them looking like they do. In Hollywood, you have to look amazing to get work, and these diets and exercise programs keep celebrities looking great.

Of course, this means that there are a lot of companies and people out there trying to push the latest celebrity fad diet. While some celebrities do fall for these fad diets, some don’t. Celebrities are just like normal people in that they want to find the best diet and the best exercise program they can. Many work a lot, and they want to get the most benefit out of the least amount of work. However, everyone is a bit different in terms of body chemistry, so there’s no one diet that will work for everyone. Instead, each person has to try out a few different diets to see which one works best for them and their particular body chemistry.

One celebrity, model Claudia Schiffer, doesn’t actually diet at all. She has tried many of the different fad diets and has decided that none of them really work for her. Instead, she eats sensible, healthy meals three times a day that contain a large amount of fruits and vegetables. She also does everything she can to avoid snacking between meals or late at night. She does, however allow herself to give in and eat a small amount of chocolate or other snacky foods every now and then. Of course, she does have to control herself and not eat a large amount of snack food.

Geri Halliwell also eats three meals every day, few snacks, and eats many fruits and vegetables. She went through a number of different diets and exercise programs, but like Schiffer, she never found one that worked for her. She finally got tired of trying all the fad diets and decided to simply eat sensible meals each day. Halliwell and Schiffer are two of a number of Hollywood celebrities who have decided that trying to be stick thin simply isn’t worth the effort. Instead, they’ve allowed themselves to have curvy, healthy bodies and eat nutritiously rather than starving themselves and stressing over dieting.

For television presenter Claire Sweeney, the Weight Watchers diet was exactly what she needed. Weight Watchers allows its members to eat the foods they want and like in sensible portions. Sweeney had already tried a body detoxification program, but she couldn’t stick to it. She then tried Atkins, but she ended up with a kidney infection from it. Overall, none of the diets she tried really worked until she got on Weight Watchers, a program she continues to use.

Gwyneth Paltrow has used the macrobiotic diet for several years now and until her pregnancy, she didn’t eat eggs, meat, dairy products or ingest any product with caffeine. After she had her daughter Apple, Paltrow got back on her macrobiotic diet, but she says she’s no longer quite as strict about it as used to be. She still does everything she can to not eat energy-draining foods, but she has found that not stressing over her diet has made her feel better.

The Hollywood stick figure is not quite as popular as it once was and many celebrities have found that they look and feel better eating a healthy meal than starving themselves on some fad diet. Many find that their fans have reacted positively to this and in fact, people who may be struggling with their own weight issues often look up to celebrities who are honest about their weight issues and try to handle them without resorting to a lose weight quick fad. Use a Less Weight Focused Approach to Weight Loss

November 23rd, 2008

A recent study led by Linda Bacon at the University of California has come to an interesting conclusion: compared with more traditional dieting, a less weight-focused approach to eating and exercise gives better long-term results!

The study focused on two groups of dieters: one group of women who were taking a traditional route to weight loss, learning nutrition basics, cutting calories, record their calorie intake, and getting instructed to regularly exercise and weigh themselves.

The other group were encouraged to recognize hunger and fullness, learn to accept their body size, and find exercises they really enjoyed.

The result was that the traditional dieters lost weight and gained it again! The other group actually maintained a stable weight over the course of time. Also, only the nondieters improved their cholesterol counts and blood pressure and sustained boosts in physical activity, mood, and self-esteem. This can come as a wake up call to many dieters out there!

So – eat well, excercise and have fun at the same time. And use a quality proven fat binder!

Fat Burners With Ephedrine Can Give Side Effects

November 11th, 2008

ephedrine is unsafe
Weight loss review sites all write the following: many diet pills on the market are full of HUGE doses of stimulants such as Guarana (caffeine), Ephedra, Ephedrine (very common) or Ma Huang. These ingredients are known to be the cause of nerviousness, uneasiness, shakes, headaches, irritability and insomnia. We have interviewed Wendy, 35 year old mom in New Jersey:

“I bought those pharmacy pills of a website that I got from an email. They vere fat burners, but I didn´t lose weight at all from them. Instead I got a headache every day, and after a while I couldn´t do my daily tasks at all. I stopped taking them. Don´t buy cheap Ephedrine pills from India and similar stuff. Buy all natural pills instead. You never know what´s inside those medicine type pills, go for herbal supplements instead!”

We totally agree with her. Buy a safe, effective and classed product instead. Click here for a great example of a safe fat burner pill – Proactol. We also would like to encourage you to research and read proactol reviews.

Food Cravings – How to Beat Them

August 17th, 2008

.

Occasionally, many suffer from so called food craving. What is it? Well, craving is always for a certain food, not just anything to satisfy hunger. In general, this is felt for things like candy, chocolate or something that will give sugar or carbohydrates. Potato chips or an extra glass of wine can also be an example.

Are bad habits that are responsible for this craving? Or is it about poor will power? Well, not really. Food cravings have biological reasons and to beat the food craving we must understand these underlying processes.

Reasons for food craving

  • When we feel exhausted or a bit depressed we usually have low blood sugar condition. The body signals the brain that it needs something to get it going again. This results in a craving for sugar or carbohydrates. One of the causes for this behavior is Serotonin, our basic feel-good hormone. The conditions of low level of Serotonin and low level of blood-sugar go hand-in-hand. That is why whenever there is less of Serotonin; we feel a craving for sweet food such as chocolates to make up for the shortage of sugar. Unfortunately, sugar or carbohydrates release only a short burst of serotonin; when that burst dies down, the craving returns. This leads us into a spiral. A bad one.
  • Another reason is Adrenal Fatigue. When you feel stressed out or feel run own, when you have not had a restful sleep or you are feeling very tired for no specific reason, you are suffering from adrenal fatigue. In very severe cases the condition is called adrenal exhaustion. In the modern world this health disorder is quite common, but unfortunately it is very rarely appreciated as such.In case of Adrenal Fatigue also the body sends a signal to the brain for a pick-me-up and that is your craving for sugar or carbohydrate snacks, or may be, coffee during the day; at night you may look for alcohol or carbohydrates. All of this only makes the problem worse.
  • It is also seen that persons, who keep themselves on a low fat, low carbohydrate diet on a long time or have been taking appetite suppressants, do have food craving; it is because they have become at least partially insulin resistant without realizing this condition. In the normal course blood sugar level of the body is maintained stable by the action of insulin; insulin signals the cells of the body to absorb glucose from the bloodstream when necessary. Because of their insulin resistant condition, the cells do not respond to the signal and cannot mop up glucose they need. This results in a distress signal to the brain asking for more carbohydrates or sugar. The body thus receives excess calories which are deposited as fat and the person starts gaining weight in spite of eating less.

Beating the craving

Understand the reasons for the craving, then you can beat it! It can take a some time but it can absolutely be done. To beat food cravings, the body needs real healthy food, additional nutritional supplements (of pharmaceutical–grade) at times. Also, moderate exercise can help . It will take a while, but you will succeed!

Many health pros also recommend a good fat binder as assistance in getting rid of those excess pounds. A safe and effective product will help you when you need it the most, but only in combination with other things you must do – some exercise, eating right and so on.
